The Illinois National Guard Tree Lighting

The Illinois National Guard welcomed some of its Gold Star Families to the first annual Community Tree lighting, Dec. 13, at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois.

The tree, planted on the grounds of Camp Lincoln, serves as a reminder of the legacy of the men and women of the Illinois National Guard and their connection to the communities in which they live. It also serves as a reminder of Illinois' fallen Soldiers and Airmen and the sacrifices of these service members and the Families that loved them.

Maj. Gen. Michael Zerbonia, Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Illinois National Guard, lit the tree with Gold Star Families to mark a new annual tradition for the Illinois National Guard.
